Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology in Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Columbia University – New York NY

2007 Major: Philosophy; minors in Economics and English

How has being a Philosophy graduate from Duke helped shape you personally and/or professionally?

"My studies as a philosophy major honed my thinking and writing, in ways that made me stand out first as a job candidate, later as a graduate school applicant, and now as a psychologist and researcher. It also made my brain a more interesting place to live. I am forever grateful."

What advice would you give students in Duke's Philosophy programs?

"When possible, take classes you find interesting! Life is too short for unnecessary boring academic work."
