JHP Books publishes works
in textual and archival history, scholarly editions and translations,
and
interpretative and contextual studies of philosophers and philosophical
movements. We are particularly interested in innovative interpretations
and
contextual background studies that illuminate the positions and
development of
philosophers and philosophy. We are excited about bringing the
twentieth
century into the history of philosophy.
The manuscript
review
process is, necessarily, a lengthy one. Submitted manuscripts will be
screened
by the JHP Books editor and,
where appropriate, sent to at least two outside
referees for peer review. After assessing the referees’ reports, the
editor,
where appropriate, will present the manuscript to Humanity Books (a
scholarly
imprint of Prometheus Books) for consideration for publication.
Humanity Books
will evaluate each manuscript presented to them to insure that the
manuscript
fits with their editorial program and also to insure that the
manuscript has
commercial viability as a published book. Humanity Books will make the
final
decision on publication. The JHP Books editors hope to be able to
respond to
authors within ten to twelve months of receiving a submitted manuscript.
Authors are
expected to submit
their manuscripts to one publisher at a time. If an author submits a
manuscript
for consideration for publication with JHP Books, we expect exclusivity
in
considering it until a publishing decision is made.
